Description of the flag

Unequal triband of red, white and red charged on the white area with a local badge. This consists of an ogival white shield outlined in black showing an open book above a dormouse, both also outlined in black; below the shield the lettering "Never say die" in red italic sans capitals.

Aklavik (meaning "barren-ground grizzly place"), with a population of 727 (as of 1996), is located at 68°13'N lat. and 135°00'W long., in the NW end NWT on the Mackenzie delta. Local languages are Gwich'in, Inuvialuktun and English, and the community belongs to the electoral district of Mackenzie-Delta and to the land claim area of Gwich'i.
