About the Flag

The municipality of Oriente (6,097 inhabitants in 2010; 21,782 ha) is located 460 km of São Paulo.

Oriente is the birth town of the footballer Marcos Roberto Silveira Reis (b. 1973), better known as Marcos. One of the best Brazilian goalkeepers ever, Marcos did all his professional career (532 matches) with Palmeiras, winning the national championship in 1993 and 1994, the national cup in 1998 and the Copa Libertadores in 1999; his miraculous catches yielded him the surname of São Marcos (St. Mark). In 2003, he refused a huge contract with Arsenal, claiming that "his life was with Palmeiras". Marcos played 29 times with the national selection (1999-2005), winning the World Cup in 2002.

The flag of Oriente is green with a white canton charged with the municipal coat of arms, three thin horizontal white stripes near the bottom and maybe something else at fly.
