The municipality of São Miguel da Boa Vista (1,904 inhabitants in 2010; 7,192
ha) is located 630 km west of Florianópolis.
São Miguel da Boa Vista was
established in 1954 by colonists of German and Italian origin coming from Rio
Grande do Sul. Located close to river Sargento, the settlement was known as
Linha Sargento unit 1968. Two villagers with a strong devotion to St. Michael
then proposed to rename the place to São Miguel da Boa Vista.
The
municipality of São Miguel da Boa Vista was established on 9 January 1992,
separating from Maravilha.

The flag and arms of São Miguel da Boa Vista are prescribed by Municipal Law
No. 35 promulgated on 21 April 1993.

Descriptive memoir of
the municipal flag of São Miguel da Boa Vista.
The municipal flag of São
Miguel da Boa Vista is composed of four colors:
a1) Green represented by
four rectangles bordered by the yellow stripes and, partially, by a white
lozenge of 5.05 units in length and 3.89 units in width. The rectangles are
8.05 units in length on 5.05 units in width.
Green represents vegetation and
hope.
a2) Yellow, represented by two horizontal and two vertical stripes,
superimposed by red stripes, of 1.56 unit in width.
Yellow represents
resources.
a3) Red, represented by perpendicular stripes surrounded by
yellow stripes, of 0.78 unit.
Red is a symbol of courage, force and
determination.
a4) White, represented by a regular lozenge of 10 units in
length on 8.55 units in width.
White is a symbol of peace and purity.
a5)
The municipal flag shall have the same dimensions as the national flag, 14
units in width on 20 units in length.
The coat of arms of the
municipality of São Miguel da Boa Vista is composed of seven colors:
a1)
Beneath the shield, a red scroll supporting at its end a maize plant and a bean
plant. The scroll is inscribed with the date of emancipation of the
municipality, "09/01/1992", at the ends and the toponym "São Miguel da Boa
Vista", letters and numeral in black.
a2) On the shield's right side, a
half-ripe maize plant with green leaves and yellow cob, representing one of the
municipality's main sources of income.
a3) On the shield's left, a bean
plant with green leaves and yellow pods, also representing one of the
municipality's main sources of income.
a4) Inside the shield:
In chief, a
bovine's head and a pig's head representing animal breeding.
The symbol of
industry, represented by a red building and a gray cogwheel.
A sun rising
between small mountains representing the birth of a new municipality.
In the
shield's center, horizontally displayed, a small river between green fields,
symbolizing the natural environment.
A bovine with a milk cask, representing
dairy products in São Miguel da Boa Vista.
In the shield's lower triangle,
Brazilian pines, native trees and trees replanted on the productive and fertile
soil for timber industry.
Over the shield's center, a tobacco plant with
yellow leaves, representing another source of agricultural income in São Miguel
da Boa Vista
a5) Above the shield, a crown with five grayish towers
symbolizing force, unity and commitment fostering the progress of the new
municipality. The red gates symbolize liberty and equality among citizens.
