The municipality of Rodeio (11,325 inhabitants in 2014; 13,094 ha) is located 200 km north-west of Florianópolis.
Ivan Sache, 5 November 2021
The flag of Rodeio was originally prescribed by Municipal Law No. 381
promulgated on 26 May 1975.
Article 1.
The municipal flag has the
following heraldic description: Gyronny white and vert, charged in the center
with the municipal coat of arms outlined sable.
Article 2.
The
municipal flag, in compliance with the best Luso-Brazilin heraldic tradition,
has the following rationale.
I - Gyronny, the flag's quadrilateral field is
divided into eight equal parts shaped like right-angled triangles, each named
gyron, by four rectilinear lines crossing each other in the center, two of them
connecting the quadrilateral's angles, the two other vertical and horizontal,
both equidistant from the flag's edges.
II - White and vert, considering that
the colors of an armored flag shall be the basic colors of the featured
municipal arms, in the blazon's natural order, argent, vert (green, in the shade
known as Veronese green), and gules. Argent, on the flags, is usually
substituted by white, which matches it on the heraldic chromatic scale.
Accordingly, the upper gyron, at hoist, shall be white, followed by a green
gyron, and so on.
III - Charged with the coat of arms of the municipality
prescribed by Municipal Law No. 380 promulgated on 26 May 1975, its outer
ornaments (mural crown and scroll) omitted, therefore restricted to the shield
proper, described in heraldic terms as "A Portuguese shield, lozengy 8 x 8
argent and vert inescutcheon gules a cross trefoiled argent." Argent is also
substituted by white on the arms.
IV - Bordered sable, meaning that the
shield's field shall be outlined by a black line.
Article 3.
The
features of the municipal flag shall obey the following rules.
I - Tea flag's
width shall be 20 units.
II - The flag's length shall be 28 units.
III -
The distance of the shield to the flag's upper border, outline excluded, shall
be 6 units.
IV - The shield, in compliance with the shield's usual format
known as Portuguese or Iberian, shall be composed of a quadrilateral of 7 units
in length on 5 units in width, in base a semi-circle of 3.5 units in radius.
V - The distance of the central escutcheon to the shield's upper edge shall be
2.4 units, for the flanks, 2.1 units.
VI - The field of the escutcheon, of
the same shape as the main shield, shall be composed of a quadrilateral of 2.8
units in width on 2 units in length, ending in base with a semi-circle of 1.8
unit in radius.
VII - The cross shall be inscribed in an imaginary square of
2.5 units in side, distant of 0.35 unit from the shield's upper edge and 0.15
unit from each of the shield's flanks.
VIII - The cross' arms shall be O.3
unit in width.
IX - Each petal of the heraldic trefoils placed at the end of
the cross' arms shall be inscribed in an imaginary circumference of 0.4 unit in
diameter, or 0.2 unit in radius.
X - The center of the circumference limiting
the trefoil's edge is distant of 0.2 unit, that is, the circumference' radius,
from the middle of each side of the imaginary square containing the cross.
XI
- The centers of the circumferences delimiting the two inner petals of each
trefoil shall be separated by 0.5 unit and be located on the lines formed by an
imaginary shield of 1.5 unit in side concentric to the imaginary square
containing the cross.
XII - The lozenges filling the shield shall be designed
as follows.
a) Increase in base through imaginary lines the square described
in item IV, increasing the sides of the left and rights sides to 8 units,
therefore forming a new imaginary rectangle of 7 units in length on 8 units in
width.
b) Divide from each side the rectangle in equal segments. Each segment
shall be 7/8 unit in the lesser sides and 1 unit on the greater sides.
c)
Join by imaginary lines crossing each other at right angle, the end points of
the segments located on opposite sides and parallel to the rectangle to obtain
64 imaginary squares.
d) The diagonals of these squares constitute the lines
forming the field lozengy; they shall be increased to the shield's base to
complete the drawing.
XIII - The shield's border, in black, shall be 0.1 in
width.
