A red scroll with "29-06 Nova
Itaberaba - SC 1991" in black letters, showing the date of emancipation of the
municipality and its name, which means "Shining stone" in Tupi-Guarani.
Starting from the shield's lower edge, on the right, a maize plant with two
cobs, and, on the left, a bean plant with ripe pods, representing the main
sources of income of the municipality. The green and yellow colors emphasize
agricultural products.
The shield shall be internally divided into three
rectangles. In the central part of the lower rectangle, a semi-circular gray
cogwheel, symbolizing industry. On the left, in green and brown, a branch with
two ripe oranges, symbolizing the potential represented by citriculture.
In
the central rectangle, on a yellow background, on the left, white head of
bovines and pigs, on the right, white heads of chickens and turkeys, which
symbolize animal breeding in Nova Itaberaba. In the center of the rectangle, a
circle inscribing the main mineral resource composed of gems called amethysts,
found in deposits and in river Chapecó. The gems are Itaberaba's namesake.
In
the upper rectangle, on the left, in brown and red, a tractor plowing the
fertile soil and on the right, in yellow, brown and green, tobacco plants
representing the municipality's main crop.
In the center of the upper
rectangle, a yellow arrow represented by a triangle, pointing downwards to the
circle inscribing the gems that gave their name to the municipality.
Above
the shield, a crown surmounted by four gray towers, referring to the force
obtained by people's commitment and dedication to work. The four gates
characterize liberty and equality as citizen's rights and duties.
