Municipality

The municipality of Victor Graeff (3,292 inhabitants; 24,969 ha) is located 260 km north-west of Porto Alegre.

Victor Graeff was established, as Vila Cochinho on the banks of stream Cochinho by tropeiros heading to Cruz Alta and the neighborhood. Cochinho refers to a small drinker ("cocho", diminutive form, "cochinho"), where the immigrants washed their clothes and discussed the village's affairs.
The municipality of Victor Graeff was established on 23 October 1965, separating from Não Me Toque. The municipality's namesake is the politician and lawyer Victor Oscar Graeff, State Representative from 1947 to 1959, who pushed the political emancipation of the town but unfortunately died during the process.
