The municipality of Sete de Setembro (2,123 inhabitants; 12,000 ha) is located 375 km north-west of Porto Alegre. The town's name refers to the independence of Brazil from Portugal, proclaimed on 7 September 1822.

The flag and arms of Sete de Setembro are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 12
promulgated on 10 April 1997.
Article 7.
The municipal flag of Sete de
Setembro shall have the following symmetry: composed of two triangles, the
lower, yellow, representing force and wealth, and the upper, red, representing
the inhabitants' bravery and courage, the bases of the two triangles meeting to
form a celestial blue right descending stripe, symbolizing water, which at the
colonization's onset was the settlement's main source of income, charged with
the municipal coat of arms.
Article 8.
In compliance with heraldic
rules, the municipal flag shall have the official dimensions prescribed for the
national flag, 14 units in width on 20 units in length.
Article 20.
The coat of arms of the municipality of Sete do Setembro is described as
follows, according to heraldry principles.
I - A Portuguese shield tierced in
bipartite chief, on a chief argent (silver) dexter a Cross of Lorraine sable
(black), symbol of the Missions, on its left an eagle argent on a French shield
gules (red), the symbol of Poland, the origin of the municipality's inhabitants.
II - In base, on a field argent the symbol of industry (cogwheel), a fountain
and a watermill wheel, the water azure (blue) and the rest sable (black). The
symbols represent the development of the municipality's economical potential and
industrial activity.
III - The shield surrounded dexter by maize plants
sinister by wheat and soybean plants all fructed proper, representing the
region's crops.
IV - On a scroll gules (red) the legend sable (black) "1931 -
Sete de Setembro - 1995", recalling the arrival of the first inhabitants and the
municipality's emancipation.
V - The shield surmounted by a mural crown
composed of four towers argent (silver) outlined gules (red), symbolizing the
municipality's sovereignty to be defended by the citizens.
