Municipality

The municipality of Santo Antônio de Palma (2,139 inhabitants in 2010; 12,610 ha) is located 250 km north of Porto Alegre.

Santo Antônio de Palma was established at some date between the late 19th and the early 20th century by Italian and Polish colonists coming from Veranópolis, Nova Prata, Antônio Prado, Muçum and Guaporé.
The Palma family established an inn to cater tropeiros and their cattle, as well as merchant heading from Muçum and Guaporé to Campo de Meio and Passo Fundo. The Palma family was so influential that the place was known as Vila Palma.
Santo Antônio was elevated to the 4th district of Casca by Municipal Law No; 190 promulgated on 12 December 1962. The municipality of Santo Antônio de Palma was established by State Law No. 9,591 promulgated on 20 March 1992, and inaugurated on 1 January 1993.
