The municipality of Planalto (10,524 inhabitants in 2010; 23,040 ha) is
located 400 km north-west of Porto Alegre. The municipality is composed of the
districts of Planalto (seat), Santa Cruz, São José and São Luiz.
Planalto
was first settled in 1911 by the brothers Bernardo and Severo Tavares de
Miranda, in the today's village of Pinhalzinho. Urbanization was initiated in
1948.
The district of Planalto was established within the municipality of
Iraí by Municipal Law No. 15 promulgated in 1948. The municipality of Planalto
was established by State Law No. 4,692 promulgated on 26 December 1963.

The flag and arms of Planalto are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 834
promulgated on 30 June 1987.
Article 2.
The municipal colors are
green, yellow and white.
Article 4.
The flag of the municipality shall
obey the following rules.
I. The flag shall be composed of three panels,
yellow, green and white in usual shades, green and yellow forming right-angled
triangles and white forming an ascending quadrilateral, the yellow triangle's
right-angle in lower left and the green triangle's right angle in upper right of
the triangle formed by the three panels.
II. The flag shall be charged with
arms in the center.
III. The three sides of the flag shall be exactly equal,
mirroring each other.
Article 5.
The drawing of the flag's template
shall obey the following prescriptions.
I. The flag's width shall be [number
not given] units.
II. The flag's length shall be 150 units.
III. The arms
referred to in Article 4.II. shall be of 50 units in width and 40 units in
length.
IV. The lesser side of the green right-angled triangle in upper right
shall be exactly 75 units. The same is true for the yellow right-angled triangle
in lower left.
V. The lesser sides of the white quadrilateral ascending
between the two right-angled triangles shall be exactly 75 units.
Article
6.
The coat of arms of the municipality shall obey the following rules.
I.
A Portuguese shield, surmounted by a tower and surmounting a scroll.
II. It
shall be localized in the flag's center, 25 units from the flag's upper edge and
25 units from its lower edge, 55 units right of the flag's left edge and 55
units left of the flag's right edge.
III. The tower shall be yellow on a
black base, 15 units in width, 10 for the tower proper and 5 for its base. The
tower's ports and windows shall also be black.
IV. The shield shall be 24
units in width on 8 in length.
V. The space separating the tower from the
shield shall be 1 unit and the space separating the shield from the scroll shall
be 1 unit.
VI. The shield is divided into three parts. On top a yellow
rectangle of 8 units in width; in the center, another, blue rectangle of the
same dimensions as the previous one. In the shield's lower part, a green
semi-circle, of 12 units in radius.
VII. The shield shall feature the
following elements
a) In the center, covering the yellow rectangle's upper
half, the Southern Cross represented by five black five-pointed stars.
b) The
most remote stars of the Southern Cross shall be 7 units from each other.
c)
In the yellow rectangle's lower half, a black arrow of 15 units in length.
d)
In the blue rectangle's center, a cut stone in 6/8, that is with 6 facets in
upper part and 8 facets on lower part, yellow, of 5 units in width and 5 units
in length.
e) On the green semi-circle, the silhouette of a farmer located
right of the vertical imaginary line that divides the shield in the middle. On
the two-thirds of the green field's lower part, stripes representing furrows.
The furrows and the farmer represented in black. The whole oxen-plow-farmer
shall cover 7 units in the horizontal dimension and being located in the green
field's upper third.
VIII. The scroll shall have in its wider part, in the
center 5 units and on the ends 3 units. The colors is blue with the writing
"1948", on the left, "Planalto", in the center, and "1963", on the right. The
letter's width shall be 3 units, their length 2 units, for the numbers, 2 units.
