The municipality of Irati (60,727 inhabitants in 2019; 99,952 ha) is located
150 km west of Curitiba.
Irati originates in the Iraty railway station,
established in the 1890s in Cavalzinho on the São Paulo-Rio Grande do Sul line.
The old town's name was soon obsolete, so that the district established as part
of the municipality of Santo Antônio de Imbatuva by Municipal Law promulgated on
25 February 1903 was renamed to Irati. The municipality of Irati was established
on 15 July 1907.
