The Band

Fort Nelson First Nation

They were originally called the Slave Indian Band, the name was changed in 1962 to the Fort Nelson Band. Named after Horatio, Lord Nelson. Split in 1974 when part of the membership broke away to form the Prophet River Band. Belongs to the larger Cree and Dene Nations.There are four reserves totaling 9752.6 hectares.
Population: 810 (2010). Treaty 8
