Presentation of Gornja Radgona

Gornja Radgona had the status of community before the 1990s. It is a town on the eastern end of the border with Austria. On the other side of the border there is an Austrian town called Bad Radkersburg, which is presumably "Lower Radgona" ("Gornja" means "Upper").

Municipal flag of Gornja Radgona

The flag of Gornja Radgona is prescribed by Decision Odlok o zastavi Občine Gornja Radgona (text), adopted on 20 March 1997 and published on 15 April 1997 in the local gazette Prepih - Uradne objave Občine Gornja Radgona, 5/1997, and amended by Odlok o spremembah in dopolnitvah Odloka o zastavi Občine Gornja Radgona (text), adopted on 1 June 2006 and published on 15 June 2006 in the local gazette Uradno glasilo Občine Gornja Radgona, 20/2006.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, horizontally divided yellow-green with a white fimbriation of height 2% of the flag height and the municipal coat of arms placed at hoist, so that its fesswise division matches the white stripe. The coat of arms is prescribed to be outlined in black.

The colours of the flag represent the sun and ripe grapes (yellow) and hills (green). The colour specifications are the following:
- Yellow: HKS 2K (upper flag field, grapes, upper left field of the coat of arms behind the sun);
- Green: HKS 54K (lower flag field);
- Blue: HKS 44K (waves in the coat of arms);
- Red: HKS 13K (sun in the coat of arms, indeed an orange shade);
- White (inner parts of the coat of arms, sunrays in the coat of arms, flag fimbriation);
- Black (inner parts of the coat of arms).

The 2006 amendments give provision for the joined hoisting of the municipal flag with the flags of Slovenia and Europen Union (Slovenia in the centre, European Union to the viewer's left, Gornja Radgona to the viewer's right).
These is no mention of a vertical version of the flag.

The coat of arms of Gornja Radgona is prescribed by Decision Odlok o uporabi grba Občine Gornja Radgona (text), adopted on 1 August 1996, and published on 13 November 1996 in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije 51/1996. The Decision neither provides the description nor images of the coat of arms. It refers to the statutes of the municipality Statut Občine Gornja Radgona, adopted on 28 September 1995 and published in Uradni list Republike Slovenije 60/95.

The coat of arms is divided horizontally, with a larger upper part, which is again divided per bend sinister, therefore giving three fields, from top to bottom, "1. Or a sun of the same lined sable; 2. argent, a grape or; 3. argent, in base five bars wavy azure next to each other".

As shown by Zalokar [zal90], the former coat of arms of Gornja Radgona was similar to the current one, but had a red five-pointed star in the middle and a red sun.
