Coat of Arms

Shield Or two olive trees Vert set in fess and in chief a goshawk volant Sable emphasized Argent and issuant from base a triplemount Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank)( and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "AÇOREIRA"
Meaning:
Although there are alternative etymologies for this toponym, the immediate meaning of the word "açoreira" is "goshawk nest", dully formed from "açor"+"eira"; the arms are therefore partly canting.(The bird here referred is indeed the Eurasian Goshawk, which is native to see here the area, unlike in the case of the Azores [pt-a.html], where the toponym (and the canting arms and flag) resulted from an early misidentification here of the local Common Buzzard.)
