Coat of arms

The arms are Gules a two-arch Roman bridge Argent masoned Sable issuant from a base wavy Argent charged with two barrulets wavy Azure,in chief two keys Or and Argent per saltire pointing upwards and tied Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VADE - S. PEDRO". These arms (and flag) were created by Carlos Alberto Mouteira Fernandes.
Meaning:
"São Pedro" means "St. Peter", and "vade" is archaic Portuguese for "ford" (currently "_vau_"), making these arms somewhat canting (an actual ford doesnt need a bridge, I guess). The keys are an attribute of St. Peter.
António Martins-Tuválkin, 14 July 2009

Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República: III Sérieon 6 December 2002
