The arms are Azure, in base three triplets of wheat ears Or tied Gules ordered 2:1, issuant from the chief a fortress wall corner with turret Argent. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "BARBACENA".
Meaning:
The turret and castle wall refer to the local castle; it is represented on the arms in a very unheraldic fashion.

Shield Argent, two red kites volant Proper ordered per fess, in chief a Marian crown Gules, in base a triplet of wheat ears Vert tied Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "VILA FERNANDO - ELVAS".
