Located in Kyoto City Kyoto Prefecture and established in 1959. The embroidered ceremonial flag has purple background with a gold color emblem , old emblem and vertical writing gold kanji university name in gold fringe. The university flag has purplish blue background with a white symbol mark and white English university name written horizontally. The university emblem is a graphic representation of the characters "大學" (大學). Adopted in March 1951. The university hopes to achieve its founding spirit, "PAX MUNDI PER LINGUAS" (Peace in the world through language), and aims to nurture students who have acquired this spirit and will continue to work tirelessly in this spirit after graduation. The symbol mark is a white dove representing the spirit of the university in the earth and the students who have been nurtured to become ambassadors of peace and to spread their wings around the world. The trademark was registered in 1996.
