Overview

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) is the international governing body for the multi-sport disciplines of triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon and other nonstandard variations. The ITU is headquartered in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The International Triathlon Union was founded on April 1, 1989, at the first ITU Congress in Avignon, France.
It was formed in part to give the growing sport of triathlon an official organizing body and in part to advocate for the entry of triathlon into the Olympic Games. There are more than 120 affiliated National Federations around the world.
