Symbols of Requejo

The flag and arms of Requejo are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 26 October 2001 by the Municipal Council, signed on 30 October 2001 by the Mayor, and published on 16 November 2001 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 223, p. 16,759 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag, with proportions 2:3, made of four horizontal stripes with proportions 1:2, 1:6, 1:6 and 1:6, the upper stripe white with three green yews with purple cones, the three other stripes blue, white and blue.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1a. Or three yews vert fructed purpure 2 + 1, 1b. Argent a grill sable, 2. Azure a fess wavy argent. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.

The yews must represent the Tejedelo Wood (from tejo, "a yew"), a 139-ha wood mostly made of oaks and birches including huge, old yews that have survived several blazes. The Tejedelo yews are among the best preserved in the Iberian peninsula (La Opinióon de Zamora, 11 April 2008).
