Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
Shield Or, a helmet Azure with dress plates Or and a crest of wings Gules, in central chief a saltire Azure.
Meaning:
Helmet and crest are taken from the arms of the Lords von Schagen, who lived on one of the twelve, later nine estates in the municipality. The saltire is taken from the arms of the Knights of Sutholte, who lived until 1472 on the Daren estate and whose arms had three saltires. The colours yellow and red are those of the Bishopric of Münster, the blue colour is alluding to Oldenburg.
The arms were approved in 1950 by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony and were only slightly different form the arms previously approved in 1936.
