Heidenheim Coat of Arms

Shield Or, a bearded pagan's head proper, dressed and capped Gules with collar and flap Azure and buttons Or.
Meaning:
The arms show a canting pagan, as the cities name means "the pagan's home", a symbol present already on the oldest seals of the city with prints since 1486, but probably one century older, when Emperor Karl IV granted the rights of a market town in 1356. The colours are known since the armourial of Siebmacher (1605) and the present arms were granted in 1956. The colours are those of the Counts of Helfenstein, who founded the city. The head has also been explained as the head of the legendary founder of the city, a man named Heido.

The arms were adopted by the city in 1956. A plain flag was in use long before 1935.
